Education Funding GuidelinesAfter a false start with very low interest for a March AGM, the AOTP committee committed to hosting our AGM Education day on Saturday 10 June 2017. Around 50 members attended the event at Willow Function Room, Willow Pond, Canning Vale.

Our first speaker was Professor Fiona Wood. Director of the Burns Service of Western Australia (BSWA), Consultant Plastic Surgeon at Fiona Stanley Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, co-founder of the first skin cell laboratory in WA, Winthrop Professor in the School of Surgery at The University of Western Australia, co-founder of the Fiona Wood Foundation (formerly The McComb Foundation), Australian of the Year 2005 .... Prof Wood's list of achievements is long and we were honoured to have her attend our Education Day.

Annual Education Evening Murdoch 2016 Review

on .

sjog murdochReview of our Annual Education Evening, St. John of God Hospital Murdoch, 2nd June 2016.

This is our annual AOTP evening meeting, and surprisingly on a wet blustery winter night, when most people have had a busy day at work, it was extremely well attended. It was also an early opportunity for members to renew their memberships and therefore gain free entry into the event.

A light supper was provided and we are fortunate enough to always have a variety of trade displays to 'wet' our appetite for new technology and equipment. This year we were supported by Parker Healthcare, GE Healthcare, Meditech Systems, Edward Life Sciences and Teleflex. AOTP would like to take this opportunity to thank these companies for their continuing help and support in making evenings/events such as these so successful.

Autumn Scientific Meeting 2016 Review

2015 Autumn Scientific ConferenceReview from our Autumn Scientific Meeting, 12th March 2016.

Once again, we joined with our medical Consultant colleagues from the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) to have another successful meeting at the University Club of Western Australia. The sessions were opened by the President of the ASA, Dr. Lip Yang Ng who welcomed us all to the venue.

The first speaker was the world renowned Professor of Obstetric and Gynaecology Anaesthesia, Professor Michael Paech, from King Edward Memorial Hospital. This talk was entitled 'Rapid Sequence Induction for GA Caesarean Section – time to change'. As always, Professor Paech made this controversial subject interesting, and challenged whether every GA section should be a rapid sequence induction.

aotp education day 2015Hi all, we recently had an education day at Bunbury which was very successful, as the temperature outside was 38 degrees +, it was a great air-conditioned place to be!!

We are now have access for our members to be able to access the talks on our website, but obviously this will be after the event, and you won’t be able to ask questions or use it for your continuing professional development (CPD). Any problems with the members portal please contact Secretary @ This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

CPD will become more important in the future and you should ensure you have a portfolio with your attendance at education sessions included in it. Again for the future, we will try and put something on our website for our members giving guidance on putting your portfolio together for your performance appraisals.

AOTPThe evening at SJOG Hospital Murdoch on June the 11th was very successful thanks to the great evaluation forms handed in, another great success for the AOTP.

The Committee would like to thank all our speakers for giving up their valuable time for our members, a big thank you to Gavin Turbett for his account talk on Forensics’ in WA, a real hit with our members. Also thank you to our sponsors for giving up your valuable time also.

The venue this year was the auditorium and all the comments were positive regarding the lecture room, as it had plenty of room and everyone had a good view of the lectures.

asm2014The Airway management and Advanced Life Support Workshops were hugely successful, and thanks to all participants and those who completed the evaluation forms and gave us this feedback.

We would also like to extend our very grateful thanks to all those who presented, particularly the medical staff Drs Kate Luscombe, Emelyn Lee and Sophie Anderson all of whom are Advanced Life Support Instructors and made CPR and defibrillation a lot of fun!!
