YOUR AOTP NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT!

WHO ARE THE AOTP?

aotpThe Association of Operating Theatre Practitioners (Inc.) is your LOCAL, (Perth-based) Western Australian Association, supporting local anaesthetia technicians, assistants to the anaesthetist and anaesthetic nurses.

The AOTP was formerly known as the WA Society of Anaesthesia Technicians (WASAT), and has been around since 1972; the name change came about in 2009, to more truly represent the changing face of the assistant to the anaesthetist, and to allow for a more diverse membership base. Membership is open to any health professional who has an interest in anaesthesia, and who wishes to expand their skills and knowledge through attendance at study days, conferences and skills workshops.

These events are provided free or at very low cost to AOTP members and are a great way to network. The AOTP also arrange to have medical companies at these events, who supply equipment for our members to try, answer questions and often these companies participate in skills workshops for our members to get 'hands-on' practice, in a relaxed and friendly environment.

CHANGE IS COMING!

One of the most important tasks that the committee members have been working on for many years, along with other Health Industry bodies, is the establishment of a Registration Board for anaesthetia technicians and assistants who do not hold a nursing qualification.

Registration would allow anaesthetia technicians and assistants the opportunity to belong to a regulating body, giving professional status to their work, and providing a strong measure of safety to the public.

In order to gain registration for anaesthesia technicians/assistants, the AOTP needs to have a strong membership base to present to the various Industry bodies that are involved in establishing such registration boards.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

JOIN THE AOTP!

It's an easy thing to do and gives you many benefits:

Membership of an Association that is locally based and easily accessible: our meetings are held once a month in Wembley, and any AOTP member is welcome to attend. Discounted membership is given to trainees/student anaesthesia technicians.

Your member dollars stay here in WA, and are used to provide the education events, workshops and conferences that local AOTP members want. Members get a say in how those funds are spent.

The AOTP is a not-for-profit Association, this means all the member fees are used to provide information, education and support to the members. Committee members are voluntary and receive no salary or payment, apart from the opportunity to apply for education support, which is open to ALL AOTP members. As an AOTP member, you can nominate to be elected to the Committee, and influence the change that YOU want to see.

YOU get a say in the types of events you want to attend; we gain feedback at every education event and use that feedback to give you the information that YOU want.

Our members get to meet with the local medical company representatives that know what your healthcare facility need, and can provide you with great support and knowledge, because many are based here in WA.

Only a LOCAL Association knows what Western Australian members want:

Please show your support to your WA based Association, and help the AOTP to forge ahead strongly. We can achieve great things for our members, but we need your support.
